Milk Hill, Alton Barnes, Wiltshire

This elegant little formation in rapeseed (canola) is part of a new decorative design style, parts of which seem almost hand drawn. Rapeseed has a thick and brittle stem and the plants are often more than 5 feet high. Earlier formations in this crop were simple and often crude; perhaps the circle-making energies found it a difficult medium to manipulate. In recent years, however, they have achieved a real precision.

The circles here have a consistent swirl, often with standing centres. The hand-like shape at one end and the tear-drop at the other, as well as the calligraphic 9s display a remarkable control of this most resistant of crops.

Milk Hill is another of the major crop circle fields. Below the Alton Barnes White Horse, it has been the home of several historic formations.
