An aerial shot by Steve Alexander ©1999
Various portents had led me to predict squares (among other things) this year. My prophecy seems to have been fulfilled and surpassed. To date, we have had a handful of squares and two cubes, of which this was the first. The cube could be seen as a three-dimensional development of the square.
This formation is constructed as a hexagon within a circle. Using Isometric Projection, a standard architectural drawing protocol, the cube can be simply drawn within the hexagon. The lay, in strongly sown wheat, was very powerful as the photograph shows. The unusual method used here is the creation of heavy, straight laid blocks, each clearly independent of its neighbour.
